Q 1. What is the 'Teen Badminton Club' ?
The Teen Badminton Club started out as a badminton club for teenagers. Teens coming together and playing weekly from October to June. Enjoying badminton, being social, and having a super fun time!
Today, the TBC (as it is known) also has other recreational badminton programs for kids (Junior Birdies) & families (Family Club), a competitive youth team (TBC Eagles), and a few complementary endeavours around fitness like TBC STRONG workouts and the TBC Outdoor Ed Summer Program for teens.
Q 2. Who can join the TBC ?
Anyone can join. Our teens age from 12-19. Our Junior Birdies go from 7-11. Our Family Club is for all ages. Our Competitive TBC Eagles team is by tryout only. And our Summer TBC Outdoor Ed program is mostly for teens.
Q 3. What are OUR GOALS at the TBC ?
1- Create a safe and positive social + athletic environment for badminton play and have fun participating, learning and improving on a weekly basis as a teen.
2- Engaging teens and all participants to grow as individuals through sport: making friendships, being active and learning leadership skills for life.
3- Helping our players reach their goals: whether that be to learn a new sport, excel in badminton, make their schools' badminton team and experience feeling strong through badminton play!
Q 4. What level of badminton player is the TBC for ?
ALL LEVELS. From beginners to most experienced player preparing for bigger challenges, all players who want to play badminton are welcome. If you are a beginner, all you need to do is give it a try. If you're a novice, intermediate or advanced player, then all you need to do is let your love for badminton out!
Our TBC Eagles Team is for our players that wish to train hard and compete at regional or provincial tournaments and represent our club.
Q 5. How and when can I join ?
Anytime. Click HERE. Print out the form and just show up on one of our open nights. We are open October to June for badminton. You can also come for free the first time to check it out!
Q 6. What is a typical practice like at the TBC ?
At a typical weekly practice of the Teen Badminton Club, we start with a warm-up and then focus on learning one aspect/skill of the game per practice for 30-45 minutes. Then we play games for the second half of practice, alternating between singles and doubles. We try to keep the pace of practice upbeat and athletic while helping everyone feel part of the experience of learning and enjoying badminton.
For our Junior Birdies (7-11), practice is usually shorter, around an hour, which is plenty time for the kids to get their badminton on! We start with a arm-up, then engage them with a gamey challenge, then we do 20 minutes of practice of a skill and 20 minutes of game play.
Q 7. Who are the coaches at the TBC ?
The Teen Badminton Club is lucky to have passionate and knowledgeable male and female coaches ready to animate and help all of our players. Our coaches are trained by Badminton Quebec and the National Coaching Certification Program of Canada. We also have Junior Coaches, who are super friendly and starting their coaching journeys. One thing is for sure, anytime you have a question or simply want to chat, all the coaches will be there for you and happy to help!
Q 8. Why make the TBC your badminton home ?
The TBC is about badminton, but it's just as much about the people that make up our sports club. We try to help players feel like their participation interacts with their identity and purpose so they feel what they are doing is relevant to who they are and where they are going with their life. It's always a plus when we see our club excited and motivated to learn and play a lot each week while interacting with our coaches and each other!
Q 9. What is the cost to join the TBC and what does it include?
Registration for the TBC is for a season (Fall or Winter or Spring...) Each season lasts 10-11 weeks and costs $240. There is an 80$ rebate per additional siblings and tournaments cost between $20-$40. Please check the registration page for details. The registration fee includes all the equipment (rackets, birds, nets, gym) necessary and our coaching, making it one of the most affordable unsubsidized sporting programs today, with excellent value. We get such positive feedback from our parents all the time.
Q 10. What's cool about us ?
We all share a passion for badminton and having fun together. Players playing at the TBC receive constant benefits, like guest visits from elite coaches and players, the opportunity to play at our club's recreational party tournaments, help to make their school teams, or even to compete in the regional & provincial circuits if they choose. In addition, we have great complementary social & athletic programs that the kids really enjoy. But the most important part for us is being together week-in and week-out, getting on those courts, and justplaying badminton.
